“Nine-horned deer” is a creature of Lithuanian mythology who carries celestial bodies on his horns (this is usually the Moon, but also the Sun).
From the young (growing) month to the full moon - 9 days. That is why this deer is called “nine-horned”. They say that the white deer runs away on the summer solstice, and resorts in the winter. The winter solstice was called “the feast of the nine-horned deer.”.
